Family & friends :-)
A little bit about the farm.
The land was purchased by my great grandfather, Henry Graydon Storey, in 1912 when Bethungra Station was auctioned off into smaller land holdings. He used it to hold stock near the railway at Illabo for transport to Sydney for sale.
The original shack was built in 1898 and Henry and his wife lived in it until they constructed the current homestead in c.1930. They had four children one of whom later inherited the property.
My great uncle, Allan Harry Storey, took possession of the property from his father in 1941 and renamed it to “Robin Downs” for what reason we still do not know! (secret beau or maybe dabbled in a bit of ornithology!).
Allan primarily utilised share farming, the same as we still do today. He oversaw the construction of the woolshed and cattle yards in the 1960′s. Today we still have farmers from the local area droving their sheep to the property for shearing.
Over the years we have had paddocks of wheat and canola, and some agisted cattle and sheep, which is always nice to wake up to when visiting the farm.
We chose to marry at the farm because every time we travel down there we instantly feel at home, and the place is just magical to us. We leave work and city life behind and get our “country bumpkin” on! There is nothing better than on a perfectly crisp autumn morning, sitting on the front veranda with a good cuppa enjoying the vistas. Or going up the hill to watch the setting sun cast its crimson rays. And best of all is sitting by a (large) camp fire with family and friends with vino in hand.
There is lots more we love about the farm and can’t wait to share it all with you.
